How to play Snakes and Ladders

Try Snakes and Ladders at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Reach square 100 exactly. A roll past 100 leaves the token where it is. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Player 1 rolls first, starting before square 1.
  2. Move the number of squares shown by the die.
  3. Follow a snake or ladder when landing on its starting square.
  4. Alternate turns until one player reaches 100.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A useful example

From square 98, rolling 2 wins. Rolling 3 overshoots and leaves the token at 98. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

A roll of six does not grant an extra turn in this version. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
