How to play Samurai Sudoku

Choose a round of Samurai Sudoku and settle into its rules. Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

This collection contains 4 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Controls

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. Use the control method described here for this activity. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

One value entered in an overlap serves two boards, so check the corresponding rows, columns and boxes of both. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
